Beach Bag Essentials

by - July 18, 2019

I was planning on doing an OOTD but thought a beach bag essentials would be better this week as I had my first trip to the beach last Sunday. Have you gone to the beach this year already? I don't have a tan yet but I'm hoping to get a little bit of colour in my skin by the end of summer. We only went in the morning in order to not be there for the most dangerous time of the day which is between lunchtime and around 4 p.m. Protect your skin, please! And don't forget that while it's important to get some sun without sunscreen on our skin to really get vitamin D in our systems, sunlight can be very dangerous.
What are your essentials? Let me know in the comments below!

Isn't this one thing everybody agrees it's essential? Back in the day, I used to spend hours in the beginning of every summer downloading songs on to my mp3 player and later on my phone so that I had plenty of songs to listen to. Now, I don't need to fill my phone's memory with songs any more thanks to streaming services. Anybody else thinks YouTube music is better than Spotify? On my laptop, Spotify keeps giving me issues, every time I open it, it freezes my computer and the only solution is to shut it down. And on my phone, I was constantly having issues with it not playing the songs or playlists I had selected. I decided to try YouTube music and so far I love it. The app on my phone runs smoothly, barely any ads (I have the free version obvs) and even on my laptop, it seems pretty great. YouTube Music is a win on my book, but what do you think?

Extra Bikini/Swimsuit
Anything can happen. You can spill a drink or ice cream on your bikini, you may go for a dive too late in the day and then you have to go home with a wet bikini, wetting your clothes as well. I feel like an extra can be really useful.

Prepared For Anything
I don't know what it's like where you live but over here the weather can be pretty fussy. It can be sunny and warm and all of a sudden get cloudy and rainy. Many times have I enjoyed sunny mornings only to leave early in the afternoon so that I don't freeze to death. Therefore I always take with me a light cardigan and a pair of leggings or sweats. Or if it's a bit colder that day but I feel hopeful that the weather is gonna change, I leave the house with the cardigan and the leggings on and take a pair of denim shorts on my bag.

From left to right, up to bottom: Bonté Soleil Transparent Solar Spray \\ Shorts - Zara (Old) \\ White Cardigan - Local Shop \\ Red Flask - Sigg \\ Floral Bikini - Easywear (Old, but they have a similar one this year: top, bottom) \\ Earphones - LG \\ Beach Towel - Local Shop \\Sunglasses - Ray Ban \\ Beach Bag - Local Shop

It's very important to stay hydrated so I always take a 1,5L bottle with me. I love this one, it keeps my water cool although it's not exactly a cooler but because it's made in aluminum it keeps things cool more than a plastic bottle would. This bottle is recyclable and BPA free. I'm very happy I invested in a good reusable bottle, it's been a year since I bought it and I use it every day.

Obviously,  snack is a big necessity. I personally love these McVitie's cookies (pretty sure they're available in other countries as well since this is the Czeck website and we also have them here in Portugal, although with different packaging and name), my favourites are the red fruits ones, they're delicious and nutritious and low in calories. But for an even healthier option, just go for fruit. A banana, apple, pear or orange or sliced watermelon, melon or grapes in a small Tupperware.

This is obviously another necessity, almost didn't feel the need to mention it but thought I'd let you know what I think of the one I bought this summer. I got the Bonté Soleil Transparent Solar Spray, it's a chemical sunscreen (I'd love to try a physical one someday though) and it feels great. It's not greasy, it sinks into the skin super quickly, you barely have time to rub it in and although it's SPF 20, I didn't get sunburnt, my skin felt fine. If your skin is paler than mine though, I'd definitely recommend an SPF of 30 or higher, depending on how long you want to be in the sun (it shouldn't be very long anyways, remember that).

Get Your Mind Going
A book, activity books, colouring books, anything that gets your mind going or that calms you down. I personally love Sudoku and colouring books.

Sunglasses and Hat
Your skin isn't the only thing that needs to be protected from the sun. Don't forget to bring your sunglasses to protect your eyes and a hat to protect your head and hair.

Electronic Devices
The beach isn't the most electronic device-friendly place in the world, the sunlight hits your screen and you can't see properly, the heat will make your device run slow or even shut down, the screen will get dusty from the sand, your sweaty hands won't let you grab things properly, etc. But, in some cases, you might actually be able to have a good time with your electronic devices, whether it's a phone, an iPod, a tablet or even a Kindle, it's always handy to have something we can play a game on or read a book or article or blog if we're feeling bored.

I hope you're having a great day,
