The New Basics

Outfit details here

I apologize for the old picture but I was supposed to take pictures this weekend wearing some of the things mentioned in this post but I got hit with a cold and all I could do was cuddle up in a blanket all weekend long...

When you think of basics you probably think of jeans, white t-shirt or tank top, etc but times have changed and what can be considered a "basic" nowadays is different from what it used to be. The many uses and ways of styling are the same as the old ones but these are different, they stand out more, they allow you to get creative in different ways and come up with unexpected looks and combinations. Try them out yourself and let your creativity flow.

Animal Print
The second blog post I mention this trend and I still don't have anything animal print in my wardrobe. I haven't found anything I loved yet but I'm looking! Animal print is very bold and edgy but it can be easily toned down and used as a basic. It looks great paired with all kinds of colours and prints and can be a good piece to start off an outfit with and go from there adding more pieces.

Pastels were a huge trend a while back and surprisingly (not really) they're still everywhere during the warmer months. They're easy to style with any colour within the same colour palette or neutrals and they have the ability to shine without outstanding any other piece within the same look.

Gingham is easily considered a basic not only for it's usual black and white colour combo but also for its geometric pattern that goes with everything without being too obvious and standing out too much. It can be incorporated in any piece of clothing and paired with any colour and print and it will always look like it belongs.

A classic piece with the ability to look casual and make your legs look sexier. They elevate an outfit to something chicer without looking too "evening" and while being the most comfortable type of elevating shoe.

Linen is a new one and I definitely consider it a basic. It's a fabric that's easy to style and is perfect for warmer temperatures. It has the ability to look casual and classy depending on what piece you go for and how you style it.

This one isn't for the faint of heart. I feel like a bralette is a basic but I understand if it's not everyone's cup of tea. I think a cute bralette is important for any tops that show a bit of skin or for a combo of a classier piece like a blazer or suit and a sexy bralette underneath. A bralette isn't a simple bra, it's a clothing piece that doesn't need a "real" bra underneath so don't be scared to flaunt your bralette and show it to the world.

I hope you're having a great day,
Marta Ribeiro xx
